Sami Zayn Never Aimed To Win WWE Title Or Main Event WrestleMania
“I used to say I have ideas; I don't have plans.— Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn has joined an elite group by both main-eventing WrestleMania and winning a WWE world championship. He revealed that neither accomplishment was something he ever aimed for as a young fan. Zayn told Insight With Chris Van Vliet that he had ideas rather than specific plans for his career.
He explained that he worked generally toward goals without mapping them out in detail. Zayn added that he never specifically wanted to become champion but instead focused on performing well enough to generate reactions similar to those of his favorites.
His initial reign lasted nine days before ending to CM Punk on WWE Raw. Two months later on WWE SmackDown, Zayn defeated Punk in a rematch despite interference from Kevin Owens to begin his second championship run. In 2023, Zayn and Owens won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles by headlining night one of WrestleMania 39. Zayn stated that as a younger wrestler he never pictured himself as a WrestleMania main-eventer.
