Rob Van Dam Defends Ric Flair's Chosen Lifestyle
“Isn’t there something to be respected about the guy just living the way he wants to live?— Rob Van Dam
Rob Van Dam defended Ric Flair's personal choices days after his recent fall. Speaking on the latest edition of RVDTV, the WWE veteran acknowledged that Flair's lifestyle is harmful yet respects him for living exactly as he desires. Van Dam stated that Flair knows he is killing himself but prefers to live on his own terms rather than extend his life without enjoyment. He questioned whether there is something to be respected about a man living the way he wants to live.
"Isn't there something to be respected about the guy just living the way he wants to live?" Van Dam said. He compared Flair's situation to the film The Wrestler, noting the character goes out on his own terms while causing pain to family and others.
Van Dam added that if anyone deserves to live life by his own rules despite the consequences, it is Flair. He contrasted this with his own situation, saying it would be selfish for him now to start using heroin or fentanyl-laced cocaine and risk not being around for his children.
The veteran explained that in his late 70s after reaching a normal human life expectancy, he would only want to smoke and drink. Van Dam revealed lessons learned from dealing with Sabu's addictions, where confronting him constantly risked pushing him away or creating hatred between them.
Instead, Van Dam chose to act as a supportive friend, watching over Sabu as much as allowed while enjoying their time together. This approach, he suggested, aligns with how others should view Flair's decisions.
