Bryce Remsburg likens AEW refereeing to master's degree
“Refereeing on the independents and refereeing on television for AEW are two different beasts.— Bryce Remsburg

Bryce Remsburg has been a consistent referee in AEW since the promotion's first Double or Nothing event in May 2019. He also works as a travel manager for the company. Remsburg had already established himself as one of the most notable referees on the independent circuit for more than a decade prior to joining AEW.

Remsburg described his transition from independent wrestling to AEW as challenging during an appearance on The Certified Mark Show. He compared his 17 years refereeing on the independents from 2002 to 2019 to earning a bachelor's degree. He likened the start of AEW to beginning a master's program.

The main difference for Remsburg involved wearing an earpiece that allows him to receive real-time instructions from AEW owner Tony Khan, agents, and television producers. This level of constant communication was entirely new to him.

Remsburg stated that it took him several months to feel fully comfortable and present in the moment while managing the additional input during matches. He noted that performing during the early weeks of Dynamite helped him adjust.

The absence of crowds during the 23 weeks of Dynamite shows after the start of the global pandemic provided Remsburg further opportunity to build confidence in his television refereeing role. These events were sometimes taped in Jacksonville.
