Waller Retains NXT Title at Halloween Havoc
CM Punk will challenge Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship this Wednesday on November 4. The matchup was announced at the conclusion of WWE NXT Halloween Havoc. Waller has served as the top star in NXT after returning to the brand in July and capturing the NXT Championship.
He has called out individuals he believes are not pulling their weight on the brand. NXT has undergone changes in recent years with Shawn Michaels leading creative and AJ Styles assuming a larger role as a coach and producer. CM Punk has made frequent visits to the brand to check in on developments.
Waller discussed the influence of Michaels, Styles, and Punk while speaking to Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast. He described Styles as a major influence who has been coming down to NXT recently to produce and work in the ring with the talent.
Waller noted that Styles is fun to work with as a fan of his and allows performers to be themselves while making everything better without forcing ideas. He expressed a wish to get in the ring more with Styles but has only had a few chances so far.
Waller recalled that after finishing a recent match against EK Prosper, he came back through the curtain to find Shawn Michaels, AJ Styles, and CM Punk standing there. He said the three represent generations of individuals who care deeply about the business and want to give back based on how they reacted when EK Prosper came through after being put in the biggest match of his life on 24 hours' notice and suffering a loss.
