Trey Miguel Praises Mustafa Ali's Match Crafting
“You can’t have a bad match with (Mustafa) Ali and if you do, you should quit.— Trey Miguel
Trey Miguel appeared as a guest on the November 5 episode of Busted Open. During the interview he praised Mustafa Ali's approach to crafting matches. Miguel stated that if someone has a bad match with Ali they should quit because he can pull the best out of anyone.
He described the process of building a match with Ali as requiring hours of detailed work that begins ringside from the moment the crew can access the area until fans are let in. He explained that Ali focuses on specifics such as facial expressions, camera positioning, the manner and reasoning behind each sell, and the exact emotions each beat of the match should evoke in the audience.
Miguel said that understanding and implementing Ali's instructions leads to one of the best matches of the night. Looking back at their bout at TNA Rebellion 2026, Miguel called it one of his favorite matches of all time even though he broke his kneecap during it.
He noted that Ali repeatedly checked on him between moves to ensure he could continue and that the injury added an unplanned organic element which they incorporated for the remaining six minutes. Miguel credited Ali's professionalism for allowing them to reach an amazing ending to a match that was already performing well.
