NXT Recap: CM Punk Run-In Highlight
NXT was moved to Wednesday night due to election coverage on The CW, marking the first time in over five years that the show aired on that day. The episode featured several main roster stars along with the Never Seen Seventeen and the Dusty Cup finals.
Vic Joseph referred to the show multiple times as the 'Biggest NXT in history.' A few months ago CM Punk had a run-in with reigning NXT Champion Grayson Waller at an NXT live event. At Halloween Havoc CM Punk appeared on the video board at the end of the show and declared himself the number one contender for the NXT Championship.
CM Punk met with Shiloh Hill early in the episode and the two agreed to a future NXT Title match once Punk defeats Waller, provided Hill does not use the mist. Grayson Waller soon interrupted the conversation, dismissed Hill, welcomed Punk to NXT and told him to wipe his feet.
In the main event CM Punk faced Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship for the first time. Punk, who had the crowd on his side, made Waller look strong early with a suicide dive followed by a top-rope crossbody that earned a near fall.
Punk later connected with a Macho Man-style elbow drop for another near fall before hitting a superplex. As Punk signaled for his finisher, Kevin Owens snuck into the Performance Center.
