Matt Hardy Questions AEW Fans' Reception Of Adam Copeland As Champion
“It's just sometimes I get so concerned, because even the AEW fans — somebody like Adam, who's still an amazing performer at his age, and he can still go and have good matches — a lot of times they go, 'Well, he's just an older guy,' or, 'He's a WWE guy.'— Matt Hardy
Adam Copeland has announced plans to retire by the end of next year while setting his sights on winning the AEW World Championship before then. During an episode of his podcast The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Copeland's former rival Matt Hardy discussed whether AEW fans would support Copeland as champion.
Hardy stated that he believes fans would be a little critical of him as champion. Hardy added that he would personally be happy to see Copeland capture the AEW World Championship. Hardy noted that Copeland is not the type to politick for the belt and would continue mentoring younger talent in the locker room even if he becomes champion.
Copeland has already received one opportunity at the title since his retirement announcement but came up short as a participant in the Clockwork Carnage match at WrestleDream. Hardy said he would not rule out Copeland eventually winning the championship.
