Judge Rejects Tammy Sytch Bid to Review 17-Year Sentence

Circuit Judge Christian Miller rejected Tammy Sytch's motion seeking a review of her 17-year prison sentence. Sytch filed the motion in Volusia County in November 2023 related to her conviction for the death of Julian Lasseter. Her motion argued failure to investigate causation and failure to investigate conflict along with omitted and new evidence.

Sytch claimed her previous defense team did not properly investigate Lasseter's pre-existing medical conditions including a history of coronary disease, stenosis and other cardiovascular issues. She described the collision as low-speed and noted that toxicology reports showed Cialis and Adderall in Lasseter's system while he had broken ribs after CPR was administered.

The conflict argument centered on Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilliger not disclosing that she was married to physician Zachary Terwilliger who declared Lasseter's death. Judge Miller dismissed the motion in an interim order because it failed to include the necessary facts or claims required to proceed.

The filing lacked an oath stating that Sytch had read the motion or had it read to her, understood its content, and that all facts stated were true and correct. It also did not certify that Sytch understands English or that the motion had been fully translated into a language she understands.
