Grayson Waller Eyes WWE Title After Near-Release Scare
“100% (aspire to be WWE Champion now). I think now I’ve established myself as a different person.— Grayson Waller

Grayson Waller has revealed he felt he was on the verge of being released by WWE after New Day's departure from the company. New Day, consisting of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, announced their exit at the beginning of May.

The duo had been aligned with Waller on television although they were not featured prominently on a weekly basis. He then disappeared from television until appearing on NXT at the end of July. During that appearance Waller called out the NXT roster and expressed his grievances.

That moment launched his current run as NXT Champion. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Waller confirmed he believed he was close to being released prior to his NXT return. Waller noted that Oba Femi had just beaten Brock Lesnar and entered their match with confidence.

Waller admitted he may not have been prepared enough for the bout against the much larger opponent. Following the defeat he remained off television for about a month, a situation he recognized as precarious.
