George Barrios Recalls Closing WWE Saudi Deal
“I remember Michelle’s not going because she’s a woman and that adds a level of complexity at that point in time, less so, but then, it was an issue. Vince (McMahon), I don’t think wanted to go honestly and so I’m like, ‘F*ck it. It’s me.’— George Barrios

George Barrios recalled finalizing the WWE deal with Saudi Arabia. He noted that several executives were reluctant to travel to Riyadh for the meeting.

Barrios explained that Michelle Wilson declined to go because she is a woman, which created complications at the time. He believed Vince McMahon also did not want to attend, leaving Barrios to represent the company.

Barrios' wife expressed concern about his trip to Saudi Arabia. Despite the worries, he proceeded with the journey immediately after an earnings call, packing late at night before departing for Riyadh.

Upon arrival, Barrios encountered armed guards with machine guns. He described meeting a prince who was dressed in boxer shorts and had a hookah setup during the negotiations.

The prince raised his voice at Barrios, feeling that WWE's deal terms were too greedy. Barrios characterized the encounter as the most unusual business meeting he had experienced despite his global deal-making background.
