Andrade Explains AEW Exit For Personal Reasons

Andrade El Idolo has the unique distinction of switching between WWE and AEW more than any other wrestler. He first joined WWE in 2015 under the name Andrade "Cien" Almas, built a career on the main roster, and departed for AEW in 2021. Andrade remained with AEW until 2023 before making a surprise return to WWE at the 2024 Royal Rumble.

His time in WWE during 2024 saw his momentum stall, leading to an unexpected return to AEW in 2025. During an interview on Close Up with Renee Paquette, Andrade discussed his experiences moving between the promotions and his rapport with Tony Khan.

"Personally, [it] was good, while professionally it was a little sad because 1) my [AEW] contract was expired at this moment, so I need to pick a decision, like I need to go for a personal life – because I was married at this moment – or my professional life, so I picked my personal life," he explained.

Andrade stated that he left AEW on good terms after his contract expired and chose to prioritize his personal life at the time of his marriage. He added that he maintains a positive relationship with the company and remains thankful for the opportunity to return in 2025.

Andrade said he does not intend to waste this second opportunity and aims to repay Tony Khan through strong performances in the ring. He noted that this approach also involves elevating AEW overall and contributing positively to the locker room.

"Now is the moment to show who I am! "This is how I need to pay Tony for this second chance, second opportunity." Since returning to AEW in 2025, Andrade has captured the AEW National Championship.
