Will Ospreay Explains Why He Rejected WWE Offer
“I do respect it, I really do, but I don’t like the way it’s filmed, I don’t like the wrestling behind it, I think it’s very minimalistic.— Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay is considered one of the top wrestlers in the world for his blend of athleticism and striking that creates highly energetic matches. He first gained attention in New Japan and has continued that approach in AEW.

Ospreay revealed that WWE representatives contacted him and extended an offer. The proposal required him to relocate to the United States, which he declined because he has no interest in moving there.

He stated that even without the relocation requirement he would not have signed with WWE. Ospreay respects the promotion but dislikes its filming style and finds its wrestling too minimalistic.

Ospreay explained that he enjoys the freedom in AEW where he can perform without scripts and create matches that take fans on intense rides. He prefers full contact and precise execution over the style he observes in WWE.

He noted differences in main event matches, saying a single spear satisfies WWE audiences while he favors more dynamic sequences like varied ways to hit a Styles Clash. Ospreay mentioned recent WWE clips where strikes appeared to miss by a wide margin, applying to both male and female performers.

Ospreay expressed that he feels alive during matches with real contact and would rather take hits than see strikes whiff on television. He suggested WWE may instruct performers to avoid high risk since the company is already profitable.
