Mike Bailey Explains Benefits Of Wrestling Barefoot
“I love wrestling barefoot and I’m glad that I get to do it in a place like All Elite Wrestling that actually embraces the individual— Mike Bailey
Mike Bailey has built his wrestling career by competing without shoes. He wears kickpads that strap to the bottom of his feet instead.
Bailey reported having very few foot injuries. He has broken some toes but simply resets them and allows them to heal without further complications.
He experienced chronic turf toe and constant foot bruising during his Taekwondo years from repeatedly kicking elbows.
The advantages of wrestling barefoot outweigh the drawbacks for Bailey. One key benefit is the ability to grip the ropes with his toes for improved balance during springboard maneuvers from the top rope.
Bailey appreciates wrestling in All Elite Wrestling because the promotion supports wrestlers expressing their individuality. This environment allows performers to present their best versions of themselves, including his choice to wrestle without boots or shoes.
He normally wears flip flops backstage rather than going barefoot. Bailey noted that wrestlers who wear their boots to the urinal and then use them in the ring may present less sanitary conditions than his clean bare feet.
