Robert Stone Recalls Balancing Teaching and TNA Wrestling
“I finished school. I independent wrestled all throughout college. I got my degree. I got hired as a school teacher in a town over from where I grew up, high school phys ed and health, and then going into my second year of teaching, I had a tryout with TNA Wrestling and I got offered a contract.— Robert Stone
Robert Stone has recalled balancing his duties as a high school teacher with his early TNA Wrestling contract while performing as Robbie E. Stone earned his degree and began teaching physical education and health at a high school located in a town neighboring his hometown.
During his second year of teaching, he received a tryout with TNA Wrestling and was offered a contract. At the time the wrestling pay was substantially lower than his teacher salary, yet after nearly ten years in the business he chose not to pass up the opportunity.
He would appear on live TNA television on Thursday nights, fly home Friday morning, have a colleague cover his first period, and arrive at school still wearing hair gel from the show. Stone won the X Division Championship during this period and brought the title into school, where students who had watched him on Spike TV the night before greeted him with fist pumps in the hallways. Former students occasionally reach out to him on Instagram or X years later to share memories of that time.
