Paige made her return to WWE NXT almost 12 years after her previous match on the brand. She challenged Kelani Jordan for the NXT Women’s Championship on the November 4 episode. Paige disclosed that she was not the original choice for the title match.
During SmackDown’s taping that followed Raw, Triple H asked her to appear on NXT at the double taping in Brooklyn. Paige recalled on Busted Open Radio that Triple H pulled her aside and said, “Do you mind going down to NXT?”
She responded that she would definitely do it but noted it gave her little time to prepare for the bout. Paige became the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion in 2013 before relinquishing the title after moving to the main roster and capturing the Divas Championship the following year.
