Michael Page Calls For MMA Fighters Union
“It’s less about speaking out now, it’s more about forming a union and coming together. We have to move as one.— Michael Page
Michael Page believes a fighters union is needed to improve treatment for competitors in mixed martial arts. Page signed with the UFC in 2024 after a long run in Bellator that featured multiple knockout victories.
Now out of the UFC, Page told BBC Sport that fighters should form an alliance for better benefits. He emphasized the importance of fighters acting together rather than speaking out individually.
Page stated that if all fighters refused to compete the UFC would not exist. He reminded fighters that they are essential to the promotion's success.
Frustration over fighter pay is rarely voiced by competitors due to fear of backlash from promoters. The UFC has faced longstanding accusations of underpaying its athletes.
The company reached a 375 million dollar settlement in 2024 in a class action lawsuit alleging antitrust behavior to suppress fighter pay. It is also in the first year of a seven year 7.7 billion dollar streaming deal on Paramount Plus in America.
Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland voiced dissatisfaction with the pay structure and suggested he might leave the promotion. UFC CEO Dana White dismissed the complaints.
