Meltzer Says AEW Safe From Skydance Sports Cuts

The merger between Paramount and Skydance has created a new entity that has wrestling fans questioning the future of All Elite Wrestling's television agreement. Dave Meltzer stated on last week's Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW's deal with the company carried over from Warner Brothers Discovery remains protected for now.

Meltzer explained that Skydance does not classify AEW as a sport, which shields the promotion from reductions applied to the company's sports programming catalog. Meltzer added that the situation remains subject to change at any time in the future. AEW is currently in the second year of a three-year media rights contract signed in October 2024 that keeps Dynamite and Collision airing on TBS and TNT.

The agreement also includes simulcasts of both shows on HBO Max along with the addition of the AEW video library to the streaming platform. The current deal is scheduled to conclude in late 2027, although it contains an option for Skydance to extend coverage for one additional year into 2028.

It remains unclear if Skydance intends to exercise that option or pursue any extension beyond the existing contract. AEW owner Tony Khan has expressed optimism following a recent meeting with Skydance executives.
