Kevin Knight Reflects on Shibata's NJPW Dojo Training
“He would always say 'Be patient,' whether that's in the ring or out of the ring.— Kevin Knight

Kevin Knight looked back on his time training at the New Japan Pro-Wrestling dojo under Shibata. He described the daily routine as highly repetitive, featuring the same warm-up, rolls, squats, and drills every session.

Knight noted the limited detailed feedback during training. Communication challenges arose because of the language barrier, leading the trainees to rely on instincts and overall vibes to gauge whether their performance met expectations.

He found Shibata's training approach unique and at times difficult to fully engage with due to the combination of the method and the language difference. Despite these obstacles, Knight ultimately credited the experience with improving him as a performer.

When reflecting on the most valuable lesson from Shibata, Knight highlighted the emphasis on patience both inside and outside the ring. This advice stood in contrast to his prior background in football, where speed was constantly required.

Knight explained that learning to slow down his movements and actions felt unfamiliar at first. He continues to apply this mindset across wrestling, speaking, and daily life, which he says has contributed to his success.
