Kenny Omega Targets Wrestle Kingdom Title Shot

Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has set his sights on the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. He attacked current champion Yota Tsuji during NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2026, stating that Tsuji is not fulfilling his responsibilities as world champion.
The attack resulted in Omega earning a three-way match against Tsuji and Boltin Oleg at NJPW Power Struggle 2026. Victory in that match would grant Omega a future title opportunity.
Omega has expressed his desire to capture the championship at a major venue in front of New Japan Pro Wrestling fans. He specifically named the Tokyo Dome as the location where he aims to win the title.
In a translated interview, Omega noted that past champion Okada presented significant challenges during his own title pursuits. He contrasted this with what he sees as clear weaknesses in the current generation of IWGP champions, including Tsuji's relative lack of experience.
The Tokyo Dome is scheduled to host NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 21 on January 4. Omega has previously competed and defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at the venue.
Omega indicated that becoming champion would serve to elevate the standards for the entire NJPW roster. He believes his presence as titleholder would motivate others to improve and demonstrate that winning the belt requires substantial effort.
