Drew McIntyre Slams Pre-Planned Matches

“I can’t stand when people plan stuff from beginning to end because you don’t know how the crowd’s going to react.— Drew McIntyre
WWE wrestler Drew McIntyre has expressed strong dislike for wrestlers who plan their matches from start to finish in advance. He prefers an approach that involves talking briefly with opponents about match length while adapting to the live crowd's reactions during the performance.
McIntyre emphasized that wrestlers should know their craft and go out to listen to the audience rather than follow a fully choreographed script. He noted that crowds in different cities respond differently, making pre-planned matches risky if the audience does not react as expected.
According to McIntyre, many wrestlers have not developed the ability to improvise effectively. Some performers listen and adjust well, while others panic when things deviate from the plan, leading to awkward and choppy action on live television.
He clarified that he enjoys matches that appear real and physical even if they look somewhat choppy in a natural way. However, obvious miscommunications or hesitation when changing direction during a match make the action look poor.
McIntyre pointed out that the current WWE schedule includes fewer non-televised events compared to the past. These untelevised shows previously allowed talent, especially younger wrestlers, to practice and find their footing in front of live crowds.
