David Finlay Adapting To AEW Style And Schedule

“I feel like work-wise, I'm still trying to figure it out because it's just a completely different style.— David Finlay
David Finlay has discussed the adjustments he has made since joining AEW after more than ten years with NJPW. The wrestler, a two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion in NJPW, noted differences in both the in-ring style and overall schedule.
Finlay described AEW's wrestling approach as completely different from what he experienced in NJPW. He highlighted that the AEW schedule is significantly easier, contrasting short tours of about ten days and the demanding six-week G1 tournament with his current workload.
The performer has also adapted to AEW's television production methods, including camera placement and strict match time limits. In NJPW, matches in the main event often had flexible durations within a given range, and camera operators would adjust to the action.
Finlay explained that working within AEW's tighter time constraints for matches and segments demands specific skills. He expressed enjoyment in these environments that require ongoing adaptation throughout performances.
Since arriving in AEW, Finlay has teamed with Clark Connors and Gabe Kidd. The group captured the AEW World Trios Championship, though their reign lasted only a few days.
