Billy Gunn Recalls Unexpected AEW In-Ring Run
“Yeah, so my contract, I had 12 dates a year. Like, I really wasn't gonna wrestle, but I told Tony [Khan], 'If you need me to, I'll do some here and here and there.'— Billy Gunn
Billy Gunn signed with AEW expecting to wrestle only about a dozen times per year while also working backstage. Instead he ended up competing frequently on both shows and capturing the AEW World Trios Championship with The Acclaimed as part of his "Daddy Ass" persona. On Inside The Ropes, Gunn said he was surprised by the career resurgence in his late 50s and early 60s but credited staying in shape for his ability to keep up with much younger opponents.
