WrestleMania III Intercontinental Title Belt Up For Auction

WrestleMania III Intercontinental Title Belt Up For Auction

The Intercontinental Championship belt from WrestleMania III is heading to auction at Heritage Auctions. The belt played a central role at the event on March 29, 1987, when it changed hands in a highly regarded match.

The title was won during the bout between Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage. That match is recognized by historians, wrestlers, and fans as one of the greatest and most influential contests in wrestling history.

Between 1985 and 1989 the Intercontinental Championship was held by several defining figures from WWE's golden era. The Savage versus Steamboat match at WrestleMania III is frequently cited as one of the best WrestleMania matches even as the event approaches its 40th anniversary.

The auction takes place during a period of strong growth in the high-end wrestling memorabilia market. Heritage Auctions previously sold Hulk Hogan's photo-matched WrestleMania I boots for over one million dollars and his WrestleMania II world heavyweight championship belt for more than four hundred thousand dollars.

The multi-champion Intercontinental title is viewed as a museum-grade artifact and is anticipated to attract significant bidding interest.
