Riyadh Airport Stays Closed After Houthi Strikes

King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh remains closed following attacks earlier in the month. The main Saudi travel hub has been shut since last week after a deadly bombing by Iran-backed Houthis.
Plans to reopen the airport by Sunday did not materialize as it stayed closed through Monday. It is currently operating under a Notice to Airmen Advisory that requires prior permission for any departures or landings.
The airport is not available for emergency landings at this time. Riyadh has faced multiple attacks in recent weeks.
Saudi Arabia has reported suffering 20 attacks from the Houthis so far this month. WWE's Crown Jewel event is still scheduled for November 7 in the Saudi capital despite the ongoing situation.
A high-profile boxing match featuring Canelo Alvarez against Christian Mbilli is also set to take place in Riyadh in the coming week. The U.S. Department of State issued an alert urging heightened vigilance for Americans in the Middle East.
The Canadian government is advising against all non-essential travel to Saudi Arabia and recommending the use of airports in neighboring countries for those wishing to depart by air. Several major sports and entertainment events in the region have been postponed due to the instability.
