Paul Heyman Compares Watson's NFL Return to 1991 Sting Angle

During Thursday night's NFL matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Carolina Panthers, wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a rib injury after landing from a catch and required ambulance transport to a hospital. Watson was observed coughing up blood yet a CT scan revealed no internal bleeding, and despite a confirmed broken rib he received clearance to return after extra padding was applied to the injured area.

He made his reentry to the stadium via ambulance through a side door before rejoining the game, prompting immediate comparisons to pro wrestling angles from observers. Paul Heyman drew a parallel to a 1991 WCW angle at Clash of the Champions 17 involving Sting and The Dangerous Alliance, where Sting arrived by ambulance to avoid forfeiting the United States title and faced Rick Rude.

In that bout Sting competed while portrayed as far from 100 percent and ultimately lost the championship to Rude. Heyman shared the comparison on Twitter while promoting a roundtable discussion featuring his son Jacob alongside Cody Rhodes, Charlotte Flair and O'Shea Jackson Jr.

The Packers went on to defeat the Panthers 27-19, with Watson recording eight receptions for 113 yards in the contest. He added that seeing cameras focused on him emerging from the ambulance felt surreal yet exciting, especially with the crowd cheering his return.
