Michael Hayes Recalls Triple H Tasking Him To Mentor Bobby Roode

“Trips came up to me one day and he goes, ‘So Michael, you know you’re not gonna be around forever.’ You’re our Pat Patterson. I need you to make Bobby Roode ‘Michael.’— Michael Hayes
Michael Hayes remembered a discussion with Triple H about mentoring Bobby Roode. Triple H told Hayes that he needed to prepare Roode to eventually take over his position within WWE.
Hayes shared the conversation during an appearance on Stephanie McMahon's What's Your Story? Podcast. He explained his decision to embrace a heel role and commit to the new direction in his career.
According to Hayes, Triple H compared him to Pat Patterson and instructed him to shape Roode into the next version of Michael Hayes. Hayes agreed with the assessment that his time in the spotlight would not last forever.
Hayes expressed confidence in Roode's potential and noted that he has developed well. He acknowledged that industry circumstances sometimes fall outside of one's control and must simply be accepted.
Roode now serves as a backstage producer for WWE. He moved into the role following a neck injury in 2022 that ended his in-ring career.
