Michael Hayes Recalls Hiding From André The Giant
“We got up the next morning and there was a flight to New Haven or something and there was a flight to Atlanta, and it didn’t take long and all of a sudden, we’re changing our flights and here comes André, and we hid, all three of us are hiding behind this pillar, like, ‘I hope he don’t see us. Please don’t see us.’— Michael Hayes
While recounting his career, Michael Hayes described an incident where André the Giant was set to agent a show in Ohio featuring The Freebirds. After Hayes partied heavily the night before and needed to be carried into the building, the group later tried to avoid André at an airport by hiding behind a pillar. Hayes explained they were afraid because he had already been in trouble for showing up unprepared the first time André served as agent.
