Jake Hager Has Additional Retina Reattachment Surgery

Jake Hager suffered a brutal injury during his Power Slap 23 bout against Johnny Magna. The match took place on September 17 and ended in a TKO loss for Hager after he began bleeding from the eye following repeated slaps.
The fight was stopped immediately and Hager was sent for emergency surgery after sustaining a globe fracture. Power Slap co-owner Dana White described the injury as the worst seen in the UFC, Power Slap or any related promotion and refused to air replays of the blow.
Hager’s fiancée Patricia Blackburn revealed this week that doctors discovered he had a detached retina requiring additional surgery to reattach it. Blackburn stated that the procedure went better than expected and asked fans to send love and prayers to the couple during what she called a sensitive and unpredictable recovery.
Hager stands at 1-2 in Power Slap after winning his April debut by third-round knockout against Devon Jenkins and signing a six-fight contract with the promotion. It remains unclear whether he will be able to fulfill the remaining dates on that deal following the severity of the eye injury.
