Ilja Dragunov Discusses Ongoing Panic Attacks in Matches

“I still have that. Sometimes I have this very bad, sometimes I have it less, but it’s a consistent thing that is kind of a part of my life.— Ilja Dragunov
Ilja Dragunov has revealed that experiencing panic attacks during wrestling matches is a regular part of his career. He discussed the issue in a recent interview, describing how the attacks vary in intensity but remain consistent.
Dragunov explained that he once tried to find simple solutions to the complex problem, especially when younger. He has since come to accept the condition rather than attempting to eliminate it entirely.
According to Dragunov, the panic he feels is not solely negative. It drives him to perform with greater effort, devotion, and even allows him to experience more love for what he does.
He noted that the attacks occur multiple times each week. Dragunov stated that he no longer focuses on them intensely, as he has learned to see the gray areas rather than viewing things in black and white.
Dragunov reported having panic attacks in various situations, including during matches, on his entrance, and moments before competing when he felt he might forget the match. He expressed pride in never giving in and continuing despite the challenges.
He indicated that accepting the condition has made his performances feel more authentic to him. Dragunov recently joined AEW after his time in WWE and debuted at WrestleDream 2026.
