Billy Gunn Reveals Original AEW Contract Details
“My contract, I had 12 dates a year. I really wasn’t going to wrestle, but I told Tony, ‘If you need me to, I’ll do it here and there.’— Billy Gunn

Billy Gunn has been part of All Elite Wrestling since 2020. He insisted that his sons Austin and Colten complete their college education before pursuing careers in the promotion.

Gunn stated that he refused to help get his sons hired by AEW until they graduated. He emphasized that his own success in wrestling did not guarantee they would succeed in the same field.

On the day Austin Gunn graduated, he handed his diploma to his father and immediately asked when they could start in wrestling. Gunn had required college graduation as the first condition before any discussion of entering the business.

Colten Gunn also decided to pursue wrestling after having a different career path mapped out until age 60. The choice surprised both Gunn and his wife, given the demanding nature of the profession.

Gunn explained that his frequent absences from home, including 300 days on the road each year early in his career, made him hesitant for his sons to follow the same path. He wanted them to have more stable family lives than he experienced.

Although Gunn trained his sons to a certain point, he required them to seek and complete AEW tryouts on their own. He did not ask for them to be hired simply because they were his children.
