Austin Aries Discusses MLW Commentary to Title Run

Austin Aries Discusses MLW Commentary to Title Run
“There was a good mix of different things and different styles for everybody. But it still was holding some kind of traditional values of pro wrestling that I appreciated…the schedule isn't too demanding, which is nice because I enjoy my life outside of pro wrestling.— Austin Aries

Austin Aries returned to Major League Wrestling by starting as a commentator. This role allowed him to observe the product and spend time in the locker room without the immediate pressure of performing.

His commentary stint led to a match against Blue Panther at Lucha Apocalypto in 2026. Aries defeated Blue Panther to win the MLW National Openweight Championship.

After leaving MLW in 2019, Aries wrestled only a small number of matches over the following five years. His return to in-ring competition has gone smoothly, highlighted by the title victory.

Aries cited the flexible schedule and the promotion's approach as key factors in deciding to resume his wrestling career. He noted that MLW features a mix of styles while maintaining traditional pro wrestling values.

The promotion does not center its focus on the internet wrestling community, which Aries found appealing. He described the online fan base as passionate but sometimes toxic and preferred an environment aimed at entertaining fans rather than critics.

Aries changed his nickname from The Greatest Man That Ever Lived to The King of Controversy. He explained that his real-life personality, vegan lifestyle, and independent choices contribute to the reactions he receives from wrestling fans.
